The Ancient Oaks Foundation has been partnering with the Village of Lake Zurich on several habitat restoration projects around Lake Zurich and we want residents to know about this.  We added a sign to each of these areas, directing folks to our website where they can get a bit more information.

Independence Day!

We normally have habitat restoration work days on the first and third Saturdays of each month but in honor of Independence Day this Saturday, we will be taking the day off.  Enjoy the red, white and blue items that can be found around Lake Zurich.

Breezewald Park Conservation Area Cleared!

The conservation area at Breezewald Park on Old Rand Road, just north of Main Street in Lake zurich, has been cleared.  We will be working this summer on replanting it with native floweers and grasses.  What should it become?  A prairie patch?  Butterfly habitat?  Give us your comments and suggestions!

Seen in Lake Zurich:

Lake Zurich resident Bob Warren sent in some awesome photos that he took of birds and waterfowl here in Lake Zurich. Some of these call Lake Zurich home; others are passing through on migration.  We in Lake Zurich are blessed with lots of little ponds and wetlands that waterfowl can use for nesting, resting and eating.

"Birds and Breakfast" was a blast!

14 birders attended the AOF sponsored “Birds and Breakfast” on May 2.  The weather was wonderful and the birds were very cooperative.  Stacey Iwanicki of the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources led us through several bird habitats.  We identified 25 different species from the stately sand hill crane to the tiny but energetic blue gray […]
