en a fellow member of the Ancient Oaks Foundation in Lake Zurich learned of a national effort to help rescue monarch butterflies, Judi Thode jumped into action.
“We are a conservation group. Providing habitat for all God’s creatures is kind of what we want to do,” said Thode, president of the foundation. “This seemed like a really good fit that we could get the public involved in.”
Thode reached out to Village President Tom Poynton, who agreed to sign the National Wildlife Federation’s “Mayors’ Monarch Pledge,” taking the first of 24 possible actions a community can take to get involved in the project.
The national conservation group’s pledge is meant to help restore a declining monarch butterfly population and also educate local residents on how they can help at home, according to the federation’s website.
